Los Mineros
The gold rush...
At the end of the 19th century gold was discovered on the Osa Peninsula. It was rumored that more gold existed on the Osa than in California during the great gold rush. Many people flocked to the area.
Los Mineros Guesthouse used to be a gold miners bar and brothel in "the last frontier days of Dos Brazos del Rio Tigre".
Around 10.000 people came to search for their luck and a lot of gold was found.
Los Mineros was the first building in town and it was where the miners would come and spend their 'fortunes' on drink and women. If they got out of hand they were sent to one of two prison cells which have now been tranformed into a shower and a toilet.
Today, there are still miners, but many have become tour guides.
